A root canal is the removal of the tooth’s pulp. The pulp is soft tissue inside the tooth and roots that contains blood vessels and nerves.
Bacteria enter the pulp from a cracked t
ooth, a deep cavity or filling, or an injury to the tooth. When bacteria enter the pulp, infection and inflammation can occur leading to pain and swelling. Even if there is no pain, the bacteria can travel from the roots and damage the bone that supports the tooth.Without a root canal, the infection and damage will continue, either leading to losing the tooth or spreading into your body.
If you are experiencing any pain or swelling call our office and we will get you in for an exam and evaluation ASAP.
